Diphu October 5: United Farmers Committee (UFC), a Diphu based NGO dependent on livestock and agriculture has charged Mongol Sing Timung, Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council holding the portfolio of Agriculture department for the last 15 years of siphoning off crores of government fund without executing any work.

The UCF president and general secretary pointed out that any departmental scheme beneficial to the farmers for boosting productivity has not been allowed by Mongol Sing Timung for a long time. Stressing the graft charge both cultivator leaders told the media at Diphu Press Club today that the EM gobbled two crore rupees of centrally sponsored funds in 2007 and another huge sum of money from the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council fiscal budget of 2013-14 in league with the Sub divisional Agriculture Officer of West Karbi Anglong district.

The UFC claimed the EM compels departmental officers to issue orders in the name of his son and ficticious persons and instead of utilizing the drawn money in work or supply component the fund is shared 50:50 between the EM and others.

“The EM has many Italian manors spread in various towns and cities of India, his family and his talebearers live a luxurious life due to a king at the cost of our poverty, we do not have a thatched house and a square meal to feed our children, every year since last decade this person has been consuming government funds to the tune of hundreds of crore rupees but he did not bother to fund a single acre organic farm located at 24th mile Diphu Lumding road, the departmental officers constantly telling us that no fund is allocated for growth of organic farming by government,” the UCF president and general secretary said.

The peasant body also accused the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department functioning within the control of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council of committing the same type of corruption, not promoting any departmental scheme through participation of livestock growers. They said that unlike the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary minister of Gogoi cabinet Khor Sing Engti, against whom a Guwahati based vernacular daily ( Sankar Jyoti) levelled a graft charge of 13 thousand crore rupees, is actually at the helm of affairs and under his patronage Pradip Diphusa, Executive Member in charge Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department is running this department like his fiefdom.

“Once during a meeting with UFC Pradip Diphusa, promised to grant 4 cattle sheds, 8 Jersey Cows, 9 pig farms, poultry farms, milk board and milk collection centres, create grazing grounds but nothing was done; physically you will not see anything done by this department but in office records everything is good. Even within his constituency area ( Dhansiri) beside some half done construction nothing is visible,” the UCF president and general secretary alleged.

The UCF has given a 5 day ultimatum to both KAAC executive members to releasing all the funds from their respective departments to the farmer’s body and take up all pending works. If the Executive members fail to work with the farmers the UCF says it will begin a radical movement and appeal the highest public office seeking justice.
