Guwahati, April 17: Security forces on Sunday arrested four jihadis in Assam’s Chirang and Kokrajhar districts As well as arresting the four men, arms and ammunition were confiscated, police said.

BTAD ADGP Dr LR Bisnoi said a tipoff led police to launch an operation in the Tulsibil, Muwamari, Bhawraguri, and Jaypur areas in Kokrajhar district and in the Dawkhanagar area in Chirang district.

Police identified the four jihadis as Abu Bakar Siddique, Jahanur Alam Sheikh, Samad Ali Mandal and Azizul Sheikh.

The men had arms and ammunition with them, which was confiscated by the security team. Included in the arms were one HE grenade, one revolver, seven rounds of M20 ammunition, two sets of army camouflage dress, and five mobile phones.

Last year, security forces found a jihadi camp at Dawkhanagar in Chirang district. At that time, they recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition.

Police reported that they have arrested at least 16 suspected jihadis in lower Assam In the past year.

Also in lower Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Sunday, police arrested a hardcore NDFB (S) militant. identified as Sudem Borgoyari. Police received a tipoff, and the army launched a joint operation with Kokrajhar Police in the Harjhora area in the Mahamaya Reserve Forest in Kokrajhar district.

Sudem Borgoyari was arrested on the track leading from Harjhora village to the forest.

“He was wanted in Kokrajhar district in many cases of extortions and kidnappings for the banned terrorist organization,” an army official said.

Police recovered a 7.65mm Pistol with magazine and some live rounds the militant was carrying.
