Guwahati : Security forces on Friday apprehended two Karbi People’s Liberation Tiger (KPLT) militants in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district.

A tip-off led a police and army to start a joint operation in the Karbi Anglong hill district at Bhitor Kalyani near Chokihola police station. They located and arrested the two militants, identified as Mona Dera, alias Sampri Dera and Matheus Ronghe alias Sarlm.

The two men had terrorized local people for a long time, with kidnapping and extortion.

The men were carrying an AK 56 Rifle, a factory made Single Barrel Rifle, one AK 56 Rifle magazine, thirty-five 7.62mm Live Rounds, a Mobile Phone and incriminating documents.

“This apprehension is bound to give great relief to the innocent people of the area, as these two individuals since a long time had become a synonym of terror and indulged in reckless extortion and kidnapping,” a top police official said.
