The Jammu & Kashmir Police have arrested a United Kingdom-based Kashmir doctor. They claim the doctor was running a sleeper cell of the Hizbul Mujahedeen militant outfit. Police say they learned that the group planned to carry out terror strikes in the valley.

A police spokesperson said Mohammed Shaheen Baba, a resident of Budgam district, was arrested near the Srinagar International airport while trying to leave the valley.

“Mohammed Shaheen Baba alias Zaid-bin Tariq, operating as a self-styled commander, was arrested along with the four members of a sleeper cell,” the police spokesperson said. “Baba was married to an American National of Pakistani origin.”

During their investigation, police said, they learned the sleeper cell planned to carry out sensational acts of terror by way of IED blasts in the Valley. “The other members of the group have been identified as Mudasir Ahmad Baba alais Basharat Hussain Baba, Uqab Ahmad Wazir and Manzoor Ahmad,” he said.
