Diphu July 26: Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council authority has urged the Central government to expedite the process of signing the peace accord with ultra organizations which has been delayed for several reasons. The council authority has advocated for completion of the process within the month of August this year.

Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Tuliram Ronghang gave a letter to the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah in presence of Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma at hotel Taj Vivanta, Guwahati yesterday evening.

The letter signed by Dr Numol Momin, Deputy Speaker Assam Legislative Assembly, Horensing Bey MP, MLA Darsing Ronghang, Bidya Sing Engleng and Rupsing Teron has stated that “We deeply appreciate the unprecedented action you have kindly initiated to restore complete normalcy and peace in the hills of Assam through a series of initiative since December of 2020, specially the initiative to sign peace accord with armed organizations.

“The collective leadership of Karbi Anglong along with all the social and cultural organizations welcome with a sense of deep satisfaction that the process towards signing of the proposed peace accord with armed organizations of Karbi Anglong is at the final stage barring the announcement of the date for the accord signing ceremony.”

Signing Date

A reliable source has informed that following extended conversation between top brass of Assam government Home Minister Amit Shah has assured that the accord will be signed between the stakeholders prior to 15 August 2021.

It is pertinent to bring about that six rebel groups in Karbi Anglong have contracted to sign a peace accord with union and state government which includes Karbi Longri North Cachar Hills Liberation Front, People’s Democratic Council of Karbi Longri, United People’s Liberation Army and three splinter groups of Karbi People’s Liberation Tiger.

Political and societal organizations, literary bodies and student organizations of Karbi Anglong have expressed their sanguinity about the harmony agreement and on the flipside several ethnic organizations of Karbi Anglong and student’s body have urged both central and state government to ensure their basic civilian right within the autonomous region while signing the accord.
