Diphu August 5: Acclaimed Hindi poet and journalist, Birkanda Prasad, from Digholipar village in the Howraghat area was selected to receive the Swami Vivekananda Educational Cultural and Sports Organization award for 2015. His contributions in the fields of education and journalism led to the choice.
The award will be conferred on Birkanda Prasad by the organization based in Mursadabad, West Bengal on August 22 at its headquarters.
Prasad begin his career as a Hindi language teacher in Sitolmari school in Howraghat. He retired in 1988. He remained attached to the Hindi daily Sentinel and Purbanchal Prahari for 14 years, and associated with Karbi Anglong Journalist Association and Assam Sahatya Sabha until 1998.
Various literary houses published seven of Birkanda Prasad’s works.
Although Birkanda Prasad received six national level awards, he never received any award from literary or social organizations in Assam or Karbi Anglong.
Birkanda Prasad won the Kavi Kul Acharys award in 2013 from the Pratham Prakash publication, Sujanpur Pathancot Punjab. In the same year, he received the Jana Kabi award by Vaisnabi Sahatya Parisad of Sujanpur Pathancot Punjab.
In 2014, he received the Sahatyama Sri award from Kodala Math. Also in 2014, the Kabya Saravar award by Joti Publication Jalandhar Punjab. Then, in 2015, two awards. Kabya Samrat award 2015 by G B Publication Jalandhar Punjab and Amar Kabi Pandit Surya Kanti Tripathi Nirala award 2015 by Pratham Prakash publication, Sujanpur Pathancot Punjab for the second time.
