Union Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar arrived in Leh today on a two-day visit to the Ladakh Region.
A defense spokesperson said Parrikar, accompanied by the Chief of Army Staff and was received by the Army Commander of Northern Command and GOC 14 Corps.
GOC 14 Corps briefed Minister Parrikar on the local military situation after he spoke to some of the soldiers. Next on the agenda was a visit to the Institute of High Altitude Research in Leh, where he received a briefing from the Director General of R&D about the institute’s ongoing projects.
“On arrival at Leh, the minister interacted with the soldiers, after which he was briefed by the GOC 14 Corps on the prevailing military situation and state of defence preparedness along the borders of Ladakh,” the spokesperson said. “The Defence minister also visited Institute of High Altitude Research in Leh and was briefed by DG R&D on the ongoing projects by the institute.”
Parrikar will return to Delhi on 24 August 15.
