Diphu February 13: To mark the weeklong celebration of 51st Karbi Youth Festival beginning from February 15, the Fisheries department organized an angling competition at Langkung Phang Abi, Taralangso, venue of Karbi Youth Festival on Tuesday.

Around 146 participants of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong district took part in the event; they attempted to grab hold of the first largest fish from the fishpond amid the cheer of the enthusiast spectators , as an award of .1 million INR and other interesting awards awaited for the lucky winner.

The struggle set on track from 9.30 am and finished at 1.30 pm. The contestants waited on edge focusing on the sinkers with fishing hooks deep under the water. After elongated unwearied stay Lokhon Timung pulled his diminutive catch weighing 2.411 kilogram, and the judges affirmed it as the largest catch of the day, the champion was delighted in celebration.

Second prize went to Chandan Biswas, he hooked a 1.930 kg fish. The third prize went to Gautom Das, who also jammed a 1.878 kg fish.

Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Ritesh Enghi attended the event as chief guest and Executive Member in charge Fisheries department, Madhuram Lekthe was present as the guest of honor.
