An NDFB(S) militant arrested in Ripu reserve forest area of the Kokrajhar district of Assam had more than 500 rounds of AK ammunition.
The cache included a 7.65mm pistol with two magazines, four live rounds of pistol ammunition, 536 rounds of AK-rifle ammunition, five AK rifle magazines, and three HE36 hand grenades.
BTAD IGP Dr LR Bisnoi said security forces received information about the presence of 3-4 NDFB(S) cadres at ride no 3 inside the Ripu reserve forest under Kachugaon police station in the BTAD district. A joint operation was launched with police and 129 CRPF. The located and arrested the militant.
The arrested man was identified as Nipul Brahma, a man trained in Bhutan, and said to be involved in the killing of Adivasis in Kokrajhar district on December 23 last year.
“The nabbed militant is close associate of G Bidai and was involved in carnage of adivasis in Pakriguri village in Kokrajhar district on December 23 last year. He is 41 batch Bhutan trained cadre,” Dr Bisnoi said.
On Sunday, following a tip-off, Biswanath Chariali Police launched an operation near Brahmapur village under Biswanath Chariali police station. They arrested two militants including a cadre of NDFB(S) in Assam’s Sonitpur and Dhubri district.
The NDFB(S) cadre was identified as Banjoy Basumutary. Police took a revolver from him.
The other man arrested by Police and army was a MULTA cadre from Dhubri. He was involved in extortion, kidnapping and smuggling, and was carrying a revolver and ammunition, which police took from him. The militant was identified as Shah Alam.
“He was actively involved in extortion, kidnapping, smuggling of arms, ammunition and fake Indian currency,” a top police official said.
