One hardcore United Tribal Liberation Army (UTLA) militant was killed in a gun fight with Assam Rifles troops in Manipur, Sunday night, according to security officials.
Intelligence was received by the security forces about the presence of a militant group in Kuran Madrassa Ahmedabad area under Jiribam police station. 37th Assam Rifles troops then launched operation in the area.
The Assam Rifles troops located the militants hiding in the area, and a firefight began. According to the military, heavy rounds of bullets were exchanged from both sides.
UTLA Militant Killed
A top Assam Rifles official said one militant was killed at the location and security personnel arrested two other militants, but two other militants escaped from the area under the cover of darkness.
Security personnel arms and ammunition from the militants. They displayed one pistol, one M-16 rifle, several rounds of live ammunition, cash and other stores from the surrounding area.
Following the encounter, Manipur police and Assam Rifles launched a massive operation in the Kuran Madrassa Ahmedabad area to locate and arrest the militants who escaped.
