Diphu August 27: The frightening incident of killing five persons and five torched haulage trucks by suspected militants of Dimasa National Liberation Army in Assam’s Dima Hasao district yesterday late night, sent a shiver through the spine of the local residents.
The people of Dima Hasao, with immense effort came out of the trauma of ultra-related hostility and antagonism a few years back after lay down of arms by almost all ultra outfits in that autonomous hill district of Assam.
According to police the fierce attack took place in the Diyungmukh Ranger Bill locality of the industrial town where cement factories are located.
Allegedly the heavily armed combative rebellious outfit opened fire on the trucks using automatic weapons, soon after that they set the loaded trucks on fire.
Superintendent of Police of Dima Hasao Jayant Singh has confirmed the killing of five persons and one injury in the militant ambush.
“Suspected militants had fired on the trucks and later burnt them down. Five persons, including drivers and handymen of the trucks were killed in the attack,” SP Jayant Singh said.
In charge officers of Diyungmukh police station are suspecting ‘Dimasa National Liberation Army’ militants’ connection behind the unpleasant incident. In the intervening time, security forces have launched a massive manhunt in the area and its adjoining locations to incarcerate the militant group involved in the episode.
Escape routes from Diyungmukh have been sealed off. Police and Para military forces are raiding suspected hideouts of the militants, particularly the interstate borders and other vulnerable locations.
