Pune, India:

Three people died and two others were injured after a car came under the attack of a landslide on the Pune Mumbai Expressway on Sunday afternoon. Following the landslide, the traffic on the highway came to halt for several hours.

Police officials said that the landslide occurred near the Adoshi tunnel, resulting in the death of three persons. The identities of the dead are yet to be ascertained.

“The rocks fell directly on the car of the family,” a senior police official said. “Three more vehicles including a trailer also were damaged . It would take more than 24 hours to restore the normalcy on the highway.”

A report by NDTV quoted sources in the Highway police as saying that the iron holding the side of the expressway has become old and the area is landslide prone, putting motorists at risk every day, especially during monsoons.

Last month, a landslide triggered by heavy rains resulted in traffic disruptions.
