Guwahati, September 20: The Assam government’s High Powered Committee has approved proposals for Mega Projects worth Rs 463 crore.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi chaired the HPC meeting at his official residence. Also present were Basanta Das, Minister for Industries & Commerce, R.T.Jindal, Subhash Das, K.V. Eapen, Davinder Kumar Additional Chief Secretaries, and other senior government officials.

The approved projects included:

  • M/s Ajanta Pharma Ltd. to set up a pharmaceuticals manufacturing unit
  • M/s Ecotech Papers for a kraft paper manufacturing unit
  • M/s North East Nutrients Pvt. Limited for a biscuit manufacturing unit

The M/s Ajanta Pharma Ltd. proposal for a Rs. 177.67 crore allopathic medicine manufacturing unit in Kokjhar village, Chaygaon, Palasbari in Kamrup district should create 800 job opportunities.

The M/s Ecotech Papers Rs.140.19 crore proposal for a kraft paper manufacturing unit at Kamalpur in Kamrup district will generate 147 jobs.

The M/s North East Nutrients Pvt. Limited proposal to manufacture biscuits at Ramhari village in Darrang district investa Rs.146 crore, and creates direct employment for 700 persons.

In additions to approving projects, the committee, constituted under Assam’s Industrial & Investment Policy, discussed the status of previous Mega Status projects and others with applications in the pipeline.

The committee noted that most industrial unit proposals are in Kamrup, both Metro and Rural districts. They said they would like to see more industrial units in other parts of the State. Chief Minister Gogoi suggested incentivizing industry in areas further away from Guwahati.

The Committee expressed concern about the setback to investment in the State due to decisions taken by the NDA Government at the Centre. The government’s suspension of registration under the NEIIPP Policy adversely affected investment in the State.
