 Diphu August 2: Karbi Anglong police make a major breakthrough in a drug smuggling bust, arresting two drug peddlers and a consequentially large quantitiy of heroin from an unusual  hidden location in a Mahindra Scorpio XUV vehicle today near Diphu.

The Police Chief Public Relations Officer in a press message from Assam Police Headquarters  informed that; based on precise intelligence received, a shocker inspection was commenced by a team of police  under supervision of senior officers at a place along the Diphu-Dhansiri road during the wee hours .

As per the information received, a Mahindra Scorpio XUV was intercepted (no AS17D0007) and thorough checking of the vehicle was conducted by the elite police force.

To the utter disbelief of the raiding force a carefully hidden section within the fuel tank of the vehicle was discovered. After taking the secret chamber to pieces, forty one soap cases containing 552 grams of heroin was accumulated from the soap containers.

Market price of the psychotropic drugs is yet to be determined by the authorities.

Police immediately seized the substances at the place of occurrence and arrested two accused men. The first was Aftab Hussain, son of Lt. Abdul Hasim resident of Islampur within the command of Ratabari police station of Karimganj district. The other arrested person was identified as Sabir Hussain son of Babul Hussain, resident of Ajunpur within the control of Patharkandi police station of the same district.

Late last month, a huge quantity of drugs went up in flames, as a demonstration by police and the state.
