Guwahati, October 14 : A BJP Manipur legislator escaped unhurt after militants hurled a grenade at the MLA’s house. The grenade did not explode, and local police recovered it safely.
Locals suspected that militants hurled a grenade targeting the house of BJP MLA Heikham Dingo Singh in Imphal on Friday morning around 7-30 am. Mr Singh represents the Sekmai assembly constituency. Imphal is Manipur’s capital city.
A Manipur police official confirmed that suspected militants threw the grenade at the MLA’s house, then fled from the area.
“The grenade did not explode and later our police team recovered it safely,” the police official said.
Meanwhile, security forces have launched massive operation against the culprits.
Later the same day, on Friday evening, in the Tera Lukram Leirak area of Imphal, another grenade attack left 10 people injured. The casualties included a woman and a minor.
According to reports, the militants threw the grenade while some local people were preparing for an exhibition to be opened on October 15.
The injured persons were rushed to the nearest hospital and two are reported to be in critical condition.
