Diphu September 8: Amid blitz of BJP in consolidating its position within rural Karbi Anglong the once most formidable regional political party of the hills ASDC (Autonomous State Demand Committee) now Hills State Democratic Council (HSDC) is restructuring its organizational base. The old guards are leading the change. They once ruled the autonomous hill districts of Assam for more than a decade by eradicating Congress from the hills.
The resurgent HCDC has brought charismatic leader Dr. Jayanta Rongpi, Joliram Terang and Jotson Bey under one platform. This has banished the basic difference between extreme leftist and regional ideology which was the crux of differentiation that disjointed the regional force. It is paving the way for Congress to capture power of both autonomous councils. This, even after successfully inking the tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU); which ultimately became an act and overnight increased the financial and administrative power of the autonomous councils supplementary.
Addressing a party rally in Bakulia town around 60kilometers from Diphu, Jotson Bey, former Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and convener of HSDC criticized both the Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government and the BJP and justified the need for a strong regional force to achieve statehood for the people of the hills. He categorically mentioned that Congress party will never make any effort to achieve statehood for the people of the hills, he said that this party is neck deep in financial corruption and has done nothing except fill the coffers of the leaders such as Khorsing Engti, Tuliram Ronghang and Biren Sing Engti.
“Our party dared to stage a demonstration in Dispur in 1990 during the time of President’s rule, we stood firmly against the army and CRPF for the cause we believe and we will repeat it again, we are waging a democratic protest to attain our constitutionally given right, the government which has failed to submit utilization certificate for releasing budgetary allocation from the Union government for its people has no moral ground to rule Assam and Karbi Anglong. Let Modi show the courage of arresting the corrupt Congress leaders of Assam and Karbi Anglong for swindling public money and release the fund for the people of Assam” Jotson Bey said.
At the same time the HSDC was holding the rally for about one thousand supporters at Bakulia town, just 30 kilometers away from the venue of the rally, hundreds of old hands of Congress and HSDC formally joined the BJP in a meeting held in Dokmoka town. The local BJP unit organized the meeting.
Arun Terang, district BJP president welcomed the newcomers to the party fold. Arun Terang in his presidential speech requested party workers and people in general to have faith in the Narendra Modi Government and assured them that under his leadership statehood for the people of the hills will be granted.
Joy Ram Engleng, BJP’s stalwart leader ridiculed family-centric politics saying it is unsanitary for a democratic country.
