Kuki National Liberation Army Gives Up Arms
Diphu August 14: The last contingent of Kuki National Liberation Army, the militant outfit which choose to put-up resistance and shorn of from bidding farewell to arms so long, finally submitted to the authorities at Sehjang village within the command of Dillai police station, Bokajan subdivision of Karbi Anglong district during the noon hour yesterday. The village is located at high altitude in the Singhason hill range.
The joining of the Kuki militant outfit with the mainstream just ahead of Independence Day has boosted the morale of the people of Karbi Anglong and sent an upsetting message to the last remaining underground militant groups.
27 Cadres
The ceremonial decommissioning of arms took place in the presence of senior police officers.
According to police reports, twenty-seven cadres of the outfit gave up seventeen weapons. Assorted weaponries included four assault rifles, five pistols and six country-made guns, which were laid down before DIG central range and Karbi Anglong police.

This splinter group of United People’s Revolutionary Front, commanded by Martin, who later rechristened themselves as Kuki National Liberation Army and other names have been giving way in small splinter groups since last year.
“Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modiji and Home Minister Amit Shahji, we have had a major achievement towards permanent peace in Assam. Last remaining cadres of UPRF/KNLF (KUKI) surrendered & handed over seventeen weapons including four assault rifles to DIG & SP, Karbi Anglong,” Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted.
The Chief Minister described the decision by Kuki National Liberation Army as a major achievement towards permanent peace in Assam.
