Guwahati, November 30 : A major terror strike was averted in Assam’s Guwahati city when police arrested two hardcore NDFB(S) militants on Tuesday night. The police recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition, they said on Wednesday.

A top police official said the two hardcore militants were arrested in the Lankeswar area, on the outskirts of Guwahati. Police identified one militant as Nayan Bodo. Police have not yet identified Nayan Bodo’s wife.

The militants were hiding in the area and planned to make a major terror strike in Guwahati city, using their cache of arms and ammunition.

The plot was revealed by Suden Mushahary and Geeta Mushahary, both militants of the same militant group after they were arrested by Jakhalabandha police in middle Assam’s Nagaon district recently.

Other members of the NDFB(S) have recently been active in the area. Police apprehended one militant, identified as Thanda Basumutary, in the Dhanpur area of Kokrajhar district on Wednesday.

Basumutary had a hand-made rifle and ammunition, which police confiscated from him.
