Diphu February 22: Karbi Anglong police finally attached the movable and immovable properties of drug lord Baba Hazarika, who was arrested with 795 grams of heroin valued at Rs 5 crore from his Khatkhati , Bokajan subdivision residence on January 12 last. Hazarika is an under trial prisoner of Diphu jail.
Baba Hazarika’s property has been attached by a statutory tribunal under the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Act, 1976. The tribunal ordered freezing of the properties of Hazarika under section 68F (2) of the NDPS Act, 1985.”
Hazarika controlled a huge system of drug trafficking and had amassed a huge ill-gotten property with the drugs money. Police conducted thorough investigation into his movable and immovable properties and those in his wife and identified an assortment of assets acquired by Hazarika which were lopsided to his known sources of income.
The attached assets include residential buildings worth Rs 1.25 crore, five bank accounts with deposits of Rs. 26 lakh, two SUVs valued at Rs. 50 lakh, one tipper truck valued at Rs. 15 lakh, a plot of land measuring 4 katha among others. Right now Assam Police is conducting a fiscal examination in cases relating to drug smuggling and attaching properties of drug dealers in the course of inquiry.
