Guwahati, March 14 : On Monday evening, a few weeks ahead of the next assembly poll in Assam, security forces located and secured a powerful bomb in the middle Assam town of Morigaon.
Local police said the bomb was placed near a bank in the town inside a box.
When local people found the box sitting near the bank, they immediately called the police.
When the police arrived, they defused the bomb inside the box.
Morigaon is the district headquarters of Assam’s Morigaon district. The town is relatively small, holding almost 8% of the million district inhabitants. Literacy in Morigaon is much higher than India’s average, despite being mainly a rural area.
Assam’s next assembly poll is to be held in two phases, the first starting on April 4 and the second on April 11. A state BJP leader said today that PM Modi will visit Assam on March 25, to address four rallies, kickstarting the BJP campaign.
“Modi will campaign for BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate Sarbananda Sonowal in Majuli and other three rallies likely to be held in Bokakhat, Karimganj, Gahpur of Bihpuria,” the BJP leader said.
