Diphu June 22: Karbi Students’ Association (Englongpo faction) organized a bike rally from Diphu to Havarkehat today demanding implementation of Article 244(A) of the Indian constitution, removal of non tribal rights and certain other demands.

Non Tribal Rights Focus

The student body urged the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council authority not to issue Trading Licenses, Land pattas to non-tribal people and delete names of the non-tribal people from the voters list of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council.

Thangsing Timung secretary of the Karbi Students’ Association told local media that agitation on their demands will continue, he mentioned that Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council authority, Assam government and central government have not done anything to grant an autonomous state comparing Dima Hasao, Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong till now. The association said their agitation on this demand over the past forty years has received no action. They want action on no tribal rights

Sixth Schedule

He mentioned that the whole region is a sixth schedule area and a non-tribal person doesn’t have certain rights here as stipulated by his organization.
