Diphu November 30: Superintendent of Karbi Anglong Police, Dabojit Doloi, lead a team of Diphu police in a skirmish near Diphu ITI that resulted in the arrest of two UPLA cadres. The UPLA (United Peoples liberation Army) operatives came to collect a payoff from the private residence of Bidyasing Rongpi, Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council.
Police recovered one 9mm pistol and 3 live bullets from the assailants. Police also seized the CBZ bike (AS09B/1742) used by the two men. The incident took place around 8.30 PM.
“We received a complaint from Bidyasing Rongpi that the outfit demanded five lacks of rupees from him over the phone. Accordingly police laid an ambush near his residence; when they neared the house we command them to halt instead they fired two rounds at the police party but failed to hit any one.
“In the retaliatory fire, both received bullet injuries and the rear wheel of the bike was deflated but they somehow sped away from the place of occurrence and took shelter inside an empty quarter of the Council colony allotted to another Executive Member of KAAC Pradip Signar which is a few kilometers away from the place of incident.
“The Police party carried out a systematic hunt of the whole locality following the blood marks, at around 2.00 AM both the injured cadres reached Diphu Civil Hospital from where they were taken into custody and now they are undergoing treatment” Pradip Nath, officer in charge of Diphu police station told this correspondent.
Police identified the two UPLA cadres as Gautam Terang 23 and Sanjay Bey 22. The police registered case no 251/16 under section 387 of IPC. At the time of filling this report, the attending physician said the injured cadres’ condition was very critical.
The UPLA became more active in subversive activities in both the east and western part of Karbi Anglong autonomous district since KPLT ( Karbi Peoples Liberation Tiger)declared a truce.
