Diphu September 26: A minor girl (student of class nine) was raped by a neighbour in Durgapur village located within the general area of Doyangmukh under Kheroni police station, West Karbi Anglong.

Police said the incident took place on the night of September 14. Khitish Biswas, the father of the victim alleged that Bikash Biswas, alias Bisu, of the same village who is studying in Lalungdubi Collage sneaked inside his house at night when he was not present and the victim’s mother and younger sister were sleeping. Bisu seized the girl under cover of darkness and forcibly took her into the backyard of the house. He raped her several times before fleeing from the place.

The girl was unable to raise the alarm because her mouth was gagged. She was left unconscious where she was raped, and she was rescued later in severe condition by her parents

Khitish Biswas who belongs to the economically marginal section of the society reported the matter to Kheroni police station on September 16 in presence of a large group of villagers demanding the immediate arrest of the culprit.

The situation at Kheroni police station took an ugly turn yesterday when hundreds of villagers came to protest about police inaction, alleging that even after 9 days, the police did not arrest Bikash Biswas whose whereabouts are known to police. Sensing public outrage, the officer in charge of the police station pledged to arrest Bisu within 4 days.

Meanwhile, parents of the victim have made arrangements for shifting the girl to Guwahati for better treatment.
